Our Work

Since1992 we have been promoting and educating the public in Greece in the care and welfare of cats. We are also active in trying to relieve the suffering of stray cats that are in need of attention.

Our neutering program for stray cats has a positive impact on the number of stray animals in the country and also serves as a means to highlight the benefits of neutering thereby encouraging local pet owners to have their own animals sterilised.

Having been neutered, stray cats are then released and we continue to ensure that they are fed regularly in the future. As well as treating stray cats collected by our volunteers local cat charities may also bring in stray cats for treatment and neutering.

The ongoing care and feeding of stray cats is a big task, for example in the National Gardens in Athens, Friends of the Cat spend two hours every morning and two hours every evening feeding the many stray cats that have made their homes in different parts of the gardens.

As well as neutering our vets also treat a variety of other complaints. The pictures below show common eye problems caused by cat flu. Also ear cancer caused by the hot sun, especially on white cats. Ocassionally we also perform amputations, usually as a result of previous accidents.
